Though invisible to the naked eye, tension is present throughout the world, shaping the forms of nature—from spider webs and vibrating insect wings to the movement of the Earth’s crust and the rippling of water.

Tension-Active Form is a three-dimensional forming method that Lyu has explored since 2018 and further developed during his doctoral research in computational design and fabrication (2022–2025). By applying tension to relatively inelastic planar materials such as paper, thin wood, and woven fabrics, the method transforms two-dimensional surfaces into three-dimensional structures that combine structural strength with the capacity for continuous adjustment and transformation.

To Lyu, tension seems to possess a character of its own. Quietly sustaining the forms of the world, it remains humbly hidden behind what is visible. The universe appears like a vast canopy stretched out by the Creator, where countless forms of life grow and intertwine. From the smallest cells to the boundless cosmos, tension acts like an unseen warrior, silently contending with gravity and chaos to sustain the order of creation.

For Lyu, Tension-Active Form is not merely a forming technique, but a way of exploring the mysteries of creation through making. His ongoing exploration has evolved into several series, including Tension Modules, Tension Canvas, and Tension Pleats, revealing how invisible forces give rise to visible beauty.

張拉造型（Tension-Active Form） 是藝術家 Lyu 自2018年起持續探索的一種立體造型方法，並於2022至2025年間，在數位設計與製造領域的博士研究中得到進一步的深化與拓展。此方法透過張拉力作用於紙張、薄木板、織物等低彈性的平面材料，使材料在受力過程中產生彎曲與形變，逐漸由二維平面轉化為三維結構。由此生成的立體形態，不僅具有一定的結構強度，也保有即時調整與持續變化的可能性，使形態不再只是預先設定的結果，而成為力量與材料相互作用的過程。
