Weave Architecture

Material:Canvas, Carbon fiber tube, Nylon wire
Date:2024
Exhibition Site : University of Tokyo, Japan
This work explores construction methods of Nishijin weaving techniques to large-scale structures.
During the weaving process, 3mm-diameter carbon fiber tubes are inserted into the fabric along the weft direction at programmed intervals. After the fabric is completed, nylon threads are threaded through the carbon fiber tubes. By pulling the nylon thread from one end, the carbon fiber tubes bend, causing the flat fabric to transform into a predetermined three-dimensional shape. The end of the nylon thread is connected to three rotating devices, which control the process of the fabric rising and forming its shape.
